FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine educational materials
on judicious use of antimicrobials

The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine, in conjunction with AVMA, has produced educational materials on the judicious use of antimicrobials in food animals.

These include two videos, "Keeping up our Guard" (designed for veterinarians) and "Safeguarding America's Health" (designed for livestock producers), and four booklets for veterinarians on judicious use of antimicrobials in swine, beef cattle, dairy cattle, and poultry.

The text of the booklets can be found on the following web sites:

    http://www.fda.gov/cvm/fsi/JudUse.htm , and

    http://www.avma.org/scienact/jtua/default.asp

The booklets have been distributed to food animal practitioners and the video "Keeping up our Guard" has been distributed to veterinary schools. The video "Keeping up our Guard" and printed copies of the booklets can be obtained from the AVMA. The video "Safeguarding America's Health" has not yet been distributed, but hopefully, will be available through the AVMA.
